| Foreign language courses [?] |
There is a foreign language centre offering the following programmes: the KoSi (Competence Centre) offers the opportunity to learn new languages as well as to develop and improve skills in foreign languages already learned. The dedicated courses on technical languages and technical language communication, primarily in English, French and Spanish, systematically prepare students for use of the respective foreign language in both professional and academic contexts. The KoSi supports the potential for multilingualism with dedicated courses for students with a migration background who have acquired another language as their mother language in addition to German. In these courses (currently available for Polish, Russian and Turkish), the focus is on developing reading skills, the production of written texts and using the language in professional contexts in particular. International students are offered courses in German as a Foreign Language (GFL), which build on the level of the certificate courses offered by the Foreign Student Office. The range includes both courses to improve general competence in the German language as well as technical language courses for students of Economics, Natural Sciences and Engineering Sciences. In addition, as an alternative or supplement to foreign language courses, the KoSi also offers the opportunity to enhance foreign language competency on an individual basis and independently of set course times in the multimedia independent study centre (SESAM). Independent study materials are available there in a wider range of languages. Intensive learning guidance can be arranged upon request. The SESAM also arranges and supervises language exchanges (tandem learning partners). more information
