Further information provided by the department

  • Special features regarding teaching
The special characteristics of teaching include new teaching and learning formats, such as the "inverted classroom", simulations, educational games, professional application software, educational videos, interactive teaching (technically supported by response systems) and a learning management platform. Some subject-specific lectures are taught in English. Regular lectures by renowned international visiting professors. Support for participation in competitions (e.g. University Trading Challenge, Audit Challenge) reflects the close link between students and teachers.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
The department maintains a large network of partner universities around the world. In addition to the regular semester abroad, students also have the option of earning a dual degree with some of the partner universities. Intensive student exchange thanks to around 150 incoming and outgoing students each year. International Week offers a varied programme of lectures and presentations with guests from our partner universities and opportunities for personal contacts. Internationally oriented courses (including by international visiting professors) and business languages are central components of the course programmes.
  • Common partner universities for exchange
Universidad Argentina de la Empresa, Argentina; KU Leuven, Belgium; Shandong University, China; EM Normandie, France; University of Ulster, Great Britain; University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in Modena, Italy; Karlstads Universitet, Sweden; Soongsil University, South Korea; Yuan Ze University, Republic of China, Taiwan; University of Missouri in Columbia, USA
  • Special features regarding the equipment
The faculty moved into the new building in 2011. All rooms are equipped with two projectors, network computers and modern media technology. Document cameras and mobile smartboards are available in sufficient numbers. A Logistics laboratory with specialised technical equipment (KANBAN rack, RFID gate). Three computer labs with modern computer equipment (a total of approx. 80 workstations), one of which with specialised equipment as a Finance & Research lab (dual screens and trader keyboards); Current standard and special software (MS Office, SPSS, RStudio, SAP, DATEV, MATLAB, etc.).
  • Special features regarding research and development
The department has practical projects integrated into the curriculum as research projects, which are conducted jointly with student groups. The Master of Applied Research research programme in materials management and logistics is a further special feature. There are publications of all professors on various functional or industrial topics relating to Business Administration.

  • Support for founders
The Start-up Office deals with company start-ups that result from university(-related) projects and initiatives. The following measures are in place: Founders' consultation, Founders' Café; Lectures on entrepreneurship, Lions' Den lecture hall; Start-up coaching, set-up of network of contacts; Support for funding applications. Furthermore, the specialisation module Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Technology Management offers students (enrolled in Business Administration) specialist insights into the "Implementation of Business Models".
  • Characteristics of assistance to differently abled persons
Apart from measures that concern practical aspects, such as barrier-free access to all floors (lift), signal amplifiers in lecture halls, especially for the hearing-impaired, and special parking on the parking deck, students have access to a representative for disabilities who provides intensive and individual support for students' requirements and problems.
  • Characteristics of diversity advancement
Our faculty is characterised by cultural diversity. The high number of foreign programme students in International Management (BA) and International Business and Finance (MA) degree courses, as well as approx. 50 foreign guest students per semester lead to a colourful campus life. Good English is the basis of our communication; however, many of our German students speak other foreign languages in addition to English. Team projects benefit from this cultural diversity. Often our foreign guests find a qualified job working in Germany after the course.
  • Other special features
The department has developed a sophisticated quality management system: Each class of each programme elects a class speaker who meets regularly with the dean of students. Once a semester, the class speakers and student representatives organise a departmental quality workshop. The results have been updated in a continuous time series and analysed critically for many years. The departmental magazine gP Business, published in German and English twice a year, serves the internal communication with students.
