Special features regarding teachingThe course is broad-based and practice-oriented; specialisation is possible. Three courses have an international orientation. A semester/work placement abroad is partially required. There is a large network of international partner universities offering an opportunity for double degrees. The department also offers intensive, personal teaching and support in small groups. Preliminary courses and accompanying tutorials are offered in the lower semesters. International visiting professors and lecturers from the field enrich the courses on offer.
Special features regarding the international orientationThe three international courses offer internationally oriented and comparative content. Some of the teaching is in English. A semester/work placement abroad is partially required. There is a large network of international partner universities in North and South America, Europe, Asia and Africa, with the possibility of double degrees. The proportion of international students is up to 60% depending on the course. There are regularly international visiting professors. The college also includes professors who were born abroad.

Special features regarding the equipmentThe event rooms are modernised regularly, most recently in 2019. All event rooms have interactive pen displays and video conference equipment that enable events with partner universities and practice partners. Two PC laboratories offer around 60 workstations and can be used for business and statistical software events (e.g. DATEV, SPSS) and for self-study. Databases with case studies and business simulation games are available. An e-learning platform complements the range of courses. Campus-wide WiFi.
Special features regarding research and developmentThe main areas of research are in the areas of Logistics, Business Law, Accounting, Corporate Management and International Economic Relations. The cross-cutting issue of sustainability is particularly important. The Department of Economics is actively represented at the House of Logistics and Mobility at Frankfurt Airport and in the university's research associations and centres. Research is predominantly application-oriented and conducted in cooperation with companies in the region. Third-party funding and publication output have increased significantly in recent years.
Support for foundersInterdisciplinary seminar on business plan creation; Since 2014 "Entrepreneurship" in the curriculum of the Master's degree (from summer semester 2017 also in the Bachelor's degree); annual ideas competition; advice, also on Exist funding, through the specialist business start-up; implementation of two "Entrepreneurs in Residence" (EIR) as coaches. Experienced entrepreneurs provide regular assistance. After the EIR follows the transfer to experts; in connection with the EU program "Erasmus for young entrepreneurs" we offer online platforms for entrepreneurial training.
Other special featuresThe university is the first university of applied sciences to have been granted the right to offer doctoral programmes in some areas. The department is involved in the "Logistics and Mobility" doctoral centre. The department promotes equality and diversity. The percentage of female professorships is 40%.
