Courses on all central areas of modern political science; teaching closely related to research; internationality (including teaching in English, foreign guest speakers, numerous foreign partner universities); comprehensive and application-oriented training in statistics and methods of empirical political research (e.g. survey and election research); interactive and innovative teaching methods, including e-learning, various teaching/learning platforms; practical seminars with lecturers from the field (e.g. political journalism, market and opinion research).
  • Exchange universities for stay abroads

  • Special features regarding research activities
Several research projects, some of them large-scale, such as a study on the Radical Right in Europe, involving political scientists from France, the Netherlands, Great Britain and Mainz; studies at the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, based at the University of Mainz and the Technical University of Darmstadt; projects on election decision research, on experimental methods, and many more. The extensive research activities are reflected in teaching, especially in the two Master's degree courses "Empirical Democracy Research" and "Political Economy and International Relations".
  • Other special features
We cover the subject broadly with professorships for all "classic" areas plus "Politics and Economics" and empirical methods. Our dual-subject Bachelor's course (core/complimentary subject) enables numerous combinations, according to individual interests. We are strong in research and internationally oriented, maintain exchange programmes with almost 30 foreign partner universities, and offer a proportion of our lectures and seminars in English. The Media City of Mainz and the European metropolitan Rhine-Main area offer very diverse attractive opportunities for industrial placements.
