Further information provided by the department

  • Special features regarding teaching
With approximately 1,600 students, IfPol is one of the most important university training facilities in the subject of Political Science in Germany. Successful research is combined with a comprehensive and internationally oriented course offering. Seven Bachelor's and four Master's programmes ensure the complete coverage of the discipline (Political Systems, Political Theory, Comparative Political Science, International Relations) within teaching and open up numerous opportunities for specialisation and choice.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
The four study programmes (two BAs, two MAs) of the Institute of Political Science in cooperation with a French and a Dutch university dominate the international orientation of the institute, where a large number of foreign students are enrolled relative to other universities. But in the other study programs, too, the institute promotes stays abroad for its students through its own ERASMUS office. ‘Free movers’ are also supported by the institute’s student-friendly recognition system.
  • Exchange universities for stay abroads
Nottingham Trent University, Großbritannien; I.E.P. Bordeaux, Frankreich; Universita degli Studi di Torino, Turin, Italien; Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, Spanien; Universidad Rey Carlos, Madrid, Spanien; Universidade Catolica Portuguesa, Lissabon, Portugal; Linnaeus University, Växjö, Schweden; University of Agder, Agder/Kristiansand, Norwegen; University of Warsaw, Warschau, Polen; Hastings College, Nebraska, USA
  • Characteristics of assistance to differently abled persons
Students with disabilities, chronic health conditions or family care commitments are given preferential treatment in the allocation of seminar places. The university and department also offer comprehensive advisory services and have liaison officers.
  • Characteristics of diversity advancement
The centre for university teaching (ZHL), a central scientific establishment at the WWU Münster, offers a wide range of courses for the further education of teaching staff. In addition, equality between men and women is strategically an important task for the WWU. In cooperation with the Equal Opportunities Office, the departments therefore regularly draw up plans for the implementation of equal opportunities for men and women. The careers service and the international centre "Die Brücke" (The Bridge) offer numerous options for the individual continuing education of all members of the faculty.
  • Other special features
The IfPol is an institutional member of the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR). The scholars at the IfPol are mostly members of the German Association of Political Science (DVPW). The IfPol was also the host of the 23rd DVPW congress as well as the ECPR Joint Sessions of Workshops. In the summer of 2014 there was also the 11th International Conference of the International Society for Third Sector Research (ISTR) in Münster, which was organised by academics from the IfPol. The IfPol also has a very active sponsorship association with a wide range of services.
