Special features regarding teachingA variety of teaching methods such as lectures, exercises, practicals, laboratories, simulation games and supervised project work are used in the degree courses to enable students to acquire skills in a wide variety of ways. Teaching is also strongly research-oriented. Numerous research activities and different types of courses organised jointly with partners from industry ensure practice-oriented training. UA Ruhr students can also attend courses at the Ruhr University Bochum and the University of Duisburg-Essen.

Special features regarding the equipmentStudents at the mechanical engineering faculty have access to several hundred workplaces around the campus. Students like to study in the central library with its over 1,300 workplaces and demand-oriented opening hours from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. (including on the weekends). The mechanical engineering faculty also has a variety of software and hardware tools, including many production machines, test benches and measuring instruments.
