Further information provided by the department

  • Special features regarding teaching
Our study model – the CORE principle – places active, independent learning in the foreground. In this way, the students acquire the skills they will need in their professional lives. Features are 5-week blocks in which a practical issue/subject is worked on; a variety of teaching and examination methods with a consistent focus on the learning objective; educational partnership, lecturers provide the students with intensive professional, organisational and personal support.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
Worldwide network of partner universities; over 70 partner universities for voluntary or compulsory study abroad (in Europe, America, Asia, Africa and Australia); possibility of a double degree in the USA for Master students; integration of lecturers from our partner universities into teaching in Heidelberg as well as sending teachers from Germany abroad; cooperation with the SRH sister university in Paraguay; Implementation of two internationally-oriented English-language Master's programmes (matriculation October 2019: approx. 15 nations).
  • Exchange universities for stay abroads
San Diego State University, USA; California State University Fullerton, USA; Kookmin University, Süd-Korea; University of Western Sydney, Australien; Universidad de Chile in Santiago de Chile; Chile; Metropolitan University Prague, Tschechien; Bournemouth University, England; Université Lille, Frankreich; University of Florence, Italien; College of New Jersey, USA.
  • Special features regarding the equipment
The SRH Heidelberg University has a modern university building with the best technical equipment (whiteboard, flipchart, projector, moderation walls, computer pool). All students have access to various software packages, including SPSS, Office 365 and scientific databases (including Statista, EBSCO Business Source Elite, Juris, Back-online).
  • Special features regarding research and development
We focus on application-oriented research. This is mainly carried out in cooperation with corporate partners and with the integration of students. This procedure can be seen as an example in the "Business Research Methods" event: For example, Decathlon commissioned our students in 2018 to raise brand awareness. In addition, our students write their theses in collaboration with renowned practice partners (SAP; Schwarz Group; Audi etc.). The faculty also regularly procures third-party funding for cross-border projects.
  • Support for founders
The start-up institute of the SRH University of Applied Sciences Heidelberg has existed since 2010. This is aimed at students, graduates (up to 5 years following graduation) and staff of SRH. At least one team member is supposed to be associated with the SRH (student, graduate, staff member, lecturer). In recent years the start-up institute has been able to successfully support student start-ups on a regular basis (including compleatfood, Simon & Bearns, My heart beats vegan).
  • Other special features
All courses are structured according to a unique study model – the CORE principle. The aim of the CORE principle is to teach key competencies – instead of pure technical knowledge – as effectively as possible. Therefore there are hardly any classic lectures; instead, the students tackle practice-based issues intensively in each module. The new study model focuses on active, independent learning and combines competence, knowledge and the joy of learning.
