  • Special features regarding teaching
By selecting specific compulsory modules and related specific optional modules and the Master's thesis, the students gain knowledge in a selected specialisation, depending on the area of focus, as part of their basic engineering training. Research findings are incorporated into teaching. As part of the project seminars in the Master's course, students work on current research topics in interdisciplinary research groups.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
Double degree programmes; cooperation with many academic higher education institutions, key areas such as Eastern Europe, South America, China.
  • Exchange universities for stay abroads
University of Warwick, GB TWU Budapest, Hungary NTNU Trondheim, Norway Aalto University School of Engineering, Finland ENSMM de Besançon, France National Taiwan University, Taiwan PUCP Lima, Peru UFSC Santa Catarina, Brazil Tongji University Shanghai, China UTN Buenos Aires, Argentina
  • Special features regarding the equipment
In the competence atlas: Centre for Micro- and Nanotechnologies for prototypical manufacturing; Barrel of Ilmenau: largest device installation in the world for investigating turbulent convection with the highest relative measuring resolution; FASP Flexible Audiovisual Stereo Projection facility with acoustic wave field synthesis; expertise and equipment in the subject areas of the Department of Mechanical Engineering: http://www.tu-ilmenau.de/mb/fachgebiete/; for expertise, see the atlas: http://www.tu-ilmenau.de/forschungskompetenzen.
  • Special features regarding research activities
Basic and application-oriented research; activities are focused on the research clusters at TU Ilmenau; development of large-scale research projects with an interdisciplinary structure, e.g. Lorentz Force Research Training Group; Thüringer Innovationszent
