  • Special features regarding teaching
In the "Teaching and Learning in Witten" concept, the students undertake their own studies. The faculty supports the students in finding their own way by offering advice and mentoring for personal development in the community of teachers and learners as well as with corporate partners. In line with this concept, primarily dialogue-oriented, seminar-oriented events are offered in order to continuously train the communicative, artistic and reflexive competence in addition to the technical competence.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
The faculty builds on a consistent international orientation in research and teaching. The focus of teaching here is on the one hand the two English-language Master programmes, and on the other hand, the expansion of international double degree programmes and exchange programmes at Bachelor and Master level. In addition, renowned lecturers from abroad make a decisive contribution to the teaching profile of the faculty. In the case of new appointments in particular, there is increasing focus on an international profile. In addition, students regularly organise international conferences.
  • Exchange universities for stay abroads
Università di Bologna, Italien; University of Ljubljana, Ljubljana, Slowenien; Korea University, Seoul, Südkorea; Kansai University, Osaka, Japan; Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Moskau, Russland; Universiteit van Stellenbosch, Südafrika; Richmond University – The International American University in London, London, Vereinigtes Königreich; Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China; Bond University, Melbourne, Australien; IPADE, Mexico City, Mexiko.
  • Special features regarding the equipment
The usual access to literature databases at universities (e.g. JSTOR, EbscoHost) is supplemented by additional e-book collections. There is also access to specialist databases such as STATISTA and Scopus. All students have campus licenses for Office365plus and various literature management programs. Licenses for statistical software (SPSS) are provided on a course-related basis. In addition, the open source software "R" is generally used. Through integration into the EDUROAM network, students have worldwide WIFI access at all participating educational institutions.
  • Special features regarding research activities
Research in the department is consistently trans- and interdisciplinary. For example, the Witten Institute for Family Business (www.wifu.de) researches family entrepreneurship from a psychological, sociological, economic, historical and legal point of view, while the Witten Institute for Institutional Change examines the effects of different institutions and control systems in politics and business from an economic, political science perspective and philosophical point of view. There are also close research collaborations with the Faculty of Health.
  • Support for founders
The subject of founding a company is a central concern of the faculty. From the first semester, aspects of the start-up are part of the curriculum, for example in the award-winning start-up workshop, at the end of which there is a pitch in front of the start-up and investor. With the Entrepreneurship Centre Witten, the university and faculty have also developed an early-phase accelerator program that supports founders. Start-ups are offered co-working spaces, infrastructure, individual consulting services, lectures and workshops as well as support in all areas relevant to start-ups.
  • Other special features
Reverse generational contract: It is a socially responsible degree course funding that enables all students, regardless of their financial background, to study at UW/H. Students can take advantage of this model without a needs test. In the case of a late payment, they only pay back to the sponsoring association (student society) depending on their income after they have graduated and only after the minimum income limit has been exceeded. It is a solidarity model (no loan!): those who earn more later pay more, those who earn less pay less.
