Special features regarding teachingHigh practical orientation, inclusion of current research results, early involvement in projects; support in small groups and project groups; high degree of freedom for learners; teaching and learning from case studies and practical problems; strong application and practice orientation as well as a high degree of interdisciplinarity; particularly committed students can participate in scientific conferences and scientific competitions (e.g. usability challenge).
Special features regarding the international orientationContinuous expansion of the English language courses; regular international guest lectures; foreign guest professors and lecturers; Implementation of English-language summer and winter schools in cooperation with foreign partners; development of a multidisciplinary, international alumni network; internationalisation of the Master’s courses (previously two fully English-language Master’s courses, more in planning); dual-degree course in planning.

Special features regarding research activitiesSuccessful participation of the faculty in the establishment of the collaborative media research centre; establishment of a new research and teaching area Plural Economics; BMBF research group in the field of Civil Security research
Support for foundersStudents at the department have the possibility to use advisory, coaching and event services of the Founders' Office (e.g. interdisciplinary business plan seminar, Business Administration for young and new companies in technology and computer science).
Other special featuresDepartment with considerable external funding, above state average in NRW with respect to economic sciences in recent years. Strong interdisciplinarity in research and teaching for a department of economic sciences.
