  • Special features regarding teaching
    Mix of seminars and practice-oriented events, in which an insight into everyday practice is often possible in cooperation with institutions and a target group; great relevance of action-, project- and competence-oriented teaching or research-based learning, in which students are involved in research projects by teachers; numerous simulation games and simulations; small practice groups (if possible); participation in the teaching quality pact; didactic seminars for lecturers.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
    The Faculty of Applied Social and Health Sciences is a member of the International Association of Schools of Social Work and/or its subdivision, the European Association of Schools of Social Work. Within these umbrella organisations, the teachers of the department can organise by specific countries or content interests, while organising themselves as part of a network. Guest lecturers from other countries are regularly invited with a focus on visiting professors.

    Chaoyang University of Technology, Taiwan; Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spanien; Curtin University, Australien; University of Cape Coast, Ghana; University of Northumbria, Großbritannien; Rajagiri School of Social Work, Indien; Lumsa Universität Rom, Italien; University of Prishtina, Kosovo; Mozarteum Salzburg, Österreich; Fribourg Universität, Schweiz.
  • Special features regarding the equipment
    The lecture halls are equipped with the usual media; students can borrow notebooks for presentation; there is a media laboratory and a work room. Very well maintained equipment with various musical instruments and all accessories necessary for performances (lighting and sound systems, microphones etc.); provision of recording devices for interviews and corresponding devices for transcription (for students). In 2016 one of the seminar rooms was set up for Design Thinking. As part of the "BABS" course, an auditorium was equipped for video transmissions (to the learning locations).
  • Special features regarding research and development
    Research with an inter-disciplinary focus: Research collaborations and projects across disciplinary boundaries; high proportion of empirical, practice-oriented research, which reflects the very good cooperation between the faculty and the cooperation partners in practice; a large proportion of socio-political issues, in which current social and political transformation processes are analysed, especially with a view to improving societal problems and developing options for solving problems.

    Students receive support from the university’s Career Service.
  • Other special features
    There are three undergraduate courses in social work at the faculty: "Social work", "Social work (part-time)" and "Music and movement-oriented social work". A consecutive Master "Inclusion and Exclusion" as well as a further education Master "Leadership and Communication Management" complete the offer. The area of Health Sciences was added in 2011 with the Bachelor courses "Nursing", "Physiotherapy", "Speech Therapy", "Midwifery", "Nursing Management" (part-time) and the Master "Advanced Nursing Practice (ANP)".
