  • Special features regarding teaching
    Social Work, like Childhood Education and Health, is without doubt among the key social topics of the future. The Faculty of Social Work and Health, which offers a course programme that is unique in Germany, contributes to the development of these future themes with its research and development work, both in Schleswig-Holstein and on a wider scale. A close connection to professional practice is part of the department’s self-understanding, as is the further development of the profile of social work in science and practice.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
    Promotion of internationalism has been enshrined conceptually, such as through the function of a representative for international affairs at the department. There are numerous international contacts with universities and institutions of social work. Regular international excursions of teachers and students are planned systematically and funded through the department’s budget. Student work placements and semesters abroad are encouraged, as are professors’ international activities.

    The Department offers a good level of media technical equipment. Students have access to a PC lab, photo lab, media technology rooms with editing, audio and video workstations; Students are also able to use the language centre.

    The research and development profile focuses on the key areas: Education and Teaching; Rehabilitation/Health and Social Aid; we conduct research on gender themes and methods of Social Work, which are intersecting subject areas. 2 cooperative doctorates in the period 2013-2015.

    Research and teaching are linked as follows, for example: Integration and consolidation of teaching through relevant research results from teachers’ research projects; Regular research workshops; students work on practical research issues under academic supervision; Publication of the research results as part of a lecture series; Integration of students into the development and implementation of research projects, also third-party-funded projects

    The representative for students with disabilities or chronic illness of the FH Kiel is stationed at the department.

    The department values a national and interdisciplinary orientation and networking. Many representatives of the department are active nationally in associations, at conferences, etc. The department participates in various ways in the International Weeks of the university, which take place regularly each semester (e.g. conferences, interdisciplinary design of events).
