Special features regarding teachingIn the Bachelor's course: High proportion of practical work, programming/software development with a high proportion of teaching content, group work and teaching assistance on the development of social skills; In the Master's course: Explicit degree of freedom in the course focused on highly topical themes ("Current Developments in Computer Science"), active participation in conducting lectures (seminar-style teaching), practice of academic approaches.
Special features regarding the international orientationAn important feature of the Bachelor's is the voluntary semester abroad at one of several partner universities in Europe, North/South America, Asia, Australia and New Zealand or Africa (network of around 30 partner universities). The recognition of international credits has been regulated in as flexible a manner as possible and offers students a lot of freedom within Business Informatics. Selected courses and discussion groups are taught in English, with the participation of incoming students.

Special features regarding the equipmentFive computer pools with high-quality equipment for students, with 120 workstations in total and a range of servers; connection to the SAP CC at Universität Magdeburg (ERP training); wide range of software licences in the field of Business Informatics; high-performance laboratory for network technology; WiFi access to the university network in all university buildings; Lecture halls and seminar rooms with modern presentation technology including electronic whiteboards, recording/streaming of courses in selected lecture halls.
Special features regarding research and developmentStrong focus on teaching activities, as a result only a limited amount of research is carried out, focus on the topics of Logistics, Transport, Navigation, financial funding for student activities in the academic field (e.g. presentations at international conferences), research as part of the Master's theses, recognition of outstanding Bachelor's and Master's theses, support for publications with e-book publishing houses.

Support for foundersThe FH Wedel wants to act as a guide and promoter for new companies. It offers a special programme to support start-ups, which includes courses on entrepreneurship (lean start-up) and intrapreneurship, as well as practical courses (lean start-up workshop). The FH Wedel provides assistance in the preparation of business plans, an option for using the university's facilities in the early phase of a start-up, information, advice, contacts and infrastructure (e.g. smart lab) for quick prototyping.
Characteristics of assistance to differently abled personsThe FH Wedel provides information as well as support for a barrier-free university experience and continues to work on developing barrier-free access on campus (e.g. door signs in Braille). The FH Wedel is a small, flexible institution; In the past, for example, satisfactory special arrangements were found on the spot for hearing or visually impaired students with respect to exams, seminars and lectures.
Other special featuresThe Unternehmensforum Wirtschaftsinformatik (Business Informatics Company Forum, which currently includes more than 120 companies, promotes students and the course and is a direct communication platform between companies, the university and students. A number of events are held, including the "Unternehmen in die Hochschule" (Companies in the university) day with information stands and specialist talks from company representatives.
