Further information provided by the department

  • Special features regarding teaching
The course is based on the three-pillar-model with Computer Science, Business Administration and Business Informatics. A sound foundation in Mathematics and soft skills complete the course. Specialisations in Business Informatics primarily relate to Logistics and SAP. The course has a practical focus with its own practical semester. Most of the courses are seminar-type classes, with many practical exercises for specialisation.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
Dual-degree options for Bachelor/Master with France, England and New Zealand; International visiting professors programme for the Bachelor/Master; each year there are around 8-10 international visiting professors. Extensive English-taught course of study (approx. 50 credits each semester); Over 20 international partner universities for computer science and mathematics; Active international work placement programme and student exchange programme with very good credit-recognition options (approx. 40 outgoing students per year); International student projects.
  • Common partner universities for exchange
Savonia University of Applied Sciences, Finland; Waterford Institute of Technology, Waterford, Ireland; Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Vancouver, Canada; Eastern Institue of Technology in Napier, New Zealand; Whitireia Polytechnic in Porirua/Auckland, New Zealand; University Tunku Abdul Rahman, Malaysia; Polytechnic Institute of Viseu, Portugal; Universidade de Aveiro, Portugal; German Jordanian University in Amman, Jordan; Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Hanoi, Vietnam
  • Special features regarding the equipment
The faculty has over a dozen laboratories in the field of Computer Science, several of which are purely Business Informatics labs (e.g. logistics), others have a high relevance to Business Informatics (e.g. databases). All laboratories are equipped with computers, WiFi network is also fully developed so that students can use their own computers. The degree course benefits from the fact that there are four Computer Science courses in the Faculty. The logistics laboratory has an elaborate Fischer technology warehousing model that can be programmed via a control.
  • Special features regarding research and development
Several laboratories are available for practical work and for final theses; it goes without saying that applied research is conducted in the degree course; in addition to Bachelor's theses, there are a number of Master's theses and several doctorates. 2 cooperative doctorates in the period 2013-2015.

  • Support for founders
The START-UP Centre of the OTH Regensburg supports students, graduates and academic staff with start-up projects. PROPOSAL: Testing the start-up idea, support on the path towards a start-up, development of the business plan, information about funding options and programmes, arrangement of network partners. Lecturers at the department are significantly involved in the Management Cup Bavaria: Participating students, in team work and as “young entrepreneurs/executives”, learn and experience economic thinking and actions and how companies function in competition.
  • Characteristics of assistance to differently abled persons
The promotion of equal opportunities for all university members has been enshrined in the mission statement of the OTH Regensburg, which also applies to any disabilities or illness. The university offers a special advisory service in this context. At the departmental level, we take into account equalisation of disadvantages for exams and provide active support in the assignment of work placements and Bachelor’s theses. The use of accompanying persons (e.g. in case of visual impairment) or technical aids in lectures is supported by lecturers at all times.
  • Characteristics of diversity advancement
The OTH Regensburg cares about equal opportunities for all university members, regardless of gender, origin, position, age, family responsibilities, religion and any existing disability or illness. To this end, advisory services have been set up. At the department, two women’s representatives provide active support for female students; an international representative acts as a contact for visiting students. The number of English-taught (compulsory and elective) courses has been expanded; this helps students with limited knowledge of the German language.
  • Other special features
Business Informatics is closely integrated with other Computer Science courses in the Faculty. This guarantees a broad education in addition to the required subject depth.
