Special features regarding teachingIn one of the most modern university campus buildings in Bavaria, practical teaching content is taught with the aid of award-winning (self-developed) media technology. Working in small groups on hard and soft skills as well as innovative teaching forms (e.g. Coding Nights, developer competitions, business games, simulations etc.) promote interaction and motivation between the students and the lecturers. Project and study rooms and a separate reference library allow group learning and information research.
Special features regarding the international orientationThe department is committed to providing its students with courses to help with the acquisition of international and cross-cultural skills and to prepare them better for their subsequent careers in Germany and abroad. Examples include events/courses in English and ones dealing with international topics, International Teaching Week with 6- 8 English-taught electives, excursions to partner universities in six countries (embedded in courses), individual advice on stays abroad, and mobility windows for incoming students.
Exchange universities for stay abroadsUmeå Universitet, Schweden; Sheffield Hallam University, Großbritannien; Unicorn College, Prag, Tchechien; Christ University, Bangalore, Indien; University of Applied Sciences Lappeenranta, Finland; Shenzhen Technology University, China; Huzhou University, China; National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology, Taiwan; King Monkut's Unversity of Technology Ladkrabang, Thailand; Rijksuniversity Groningen, Niederlande.
Special features regarding the equipmentThanks to the interdisciplinary and cross-university cooperation, the latest teaching materials (e.g. models, robots, 3-D printers, different prototypes) are available in the teaching and research laboratories. These are maintained and constantly optimised by qualified laboratory assistants. There are 4 PC pools with a total of 115 terminals. Lecture halls are equipped, for example, with media desks controlled centrally via a touch panel, projectors in full HD, wireless presentation technology, equipment for recording and streaming of lectures. IEEE and ACM with full text publications.
Special features regarding research and developmentThe Faculty's own Institute for Design and Information Systems combines the research skills. Members of the teaching staff are nationally and internationally renowned (e.g. longstanding board of directors of DSAG, patent holder in the area of in-house navigation, publisher of a leading online marketing journal). Student teams have won the Google Challenge and SAP competitions (including a presentation in Las Vegas) several times in the past few years, and final and project work has regularly won awards.
Support for foundersThe department’s start-up mentors (two professors) are integrated into the regional competence network gründen@würzburg, which includes the City of Würzburg, the Innovation and Start-Up Centre, the Technology and Start-Up Centre, the university, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as investment-ready companies. Regular events include entrepreneurs’ informal gatherings, a social media business lounge or the Startup City as part of the Mobile Media Day.
