Further information provided by the department
-
Special features regarding teachingGenerous, modern practical facilities, close interdisciplinary integration with the Faculty of Natural Sciences and the entire FAU; Very good IT equipment; CIP computer rooms at 3 locations for students from the department.
-
Special features regarding the international orientationThe 2 Master's degree courses AOT and MAP (led by the Department of Materials Science, but 50% CBI share) are held entirely in English. Thanks to the close integration with excellence projects, they are far more international in nature than other degree courses. Work is currently ongoing to establish another Master's degree course held entirely in English.
-
Exchange universities for stay abroadsAGH University of Science and Technology, Krakau, Polen; Universität Jaume (Spanien); Abo (Finnland); TU Delft (Niederlande); Uniwersytet Im. Adama Mickiewicza, Posen (Polen); Università degli Studi di Perugia (Italien); Trondheim (Norwegen)
-
Special features regarding the equipmentState-of-the-art labs with generous range of equipment for handling an extremely wide range of research. The close ties to one another and to the interdisciplinary research institutes creates a virtually complete installation that ranges from traditional research facilities to special ultra-modern, project-specific test facilities and extensive measurement technology through to a high-resolution transmission electron microscope (TEM).
-
Special features regarding research activitiesThe CBI Department completely covers the four building blocks (Technical Chemistry, Biotechnology, Process Engineering and Product Design and Thermal Fluid Dynamics; unique collaborations with the Engineering of Advanced Materials excellence cluster, the
-
Support for foundersProfessors have excellent expertise in this field, department spin-offs have won multiple awards (e.g. Hydrogeniums Technologies)
-
Other special featuresThe Academic Guidance Centre of the CBI is open Mon-Fri for student counselling, transfer students, incoming and outgoing students, credit recognition and work placements. Extremely good ranking for the FAU and in the field of Process Engineering in the 2018 "DFG-Förderatlas" report; two Leibnitz prizewinners teach and conduct research at the department; several ERC grants are being worked on in the CBI, including with the involvement of students; excellent career prospects for graduates

(BT)= Biotechnology (CE)= Chemical Engineering (IntDiscip)= Interdisciplinary programmes (PE)= Process Engineering (IntDiscip)= very interdisciplinary and thus not classified;
As the ranking is done for the whole subject area, for the single "sub-subjects" it can happen that not all rank groups are represented in all criteria.
