  • Special features regarding teaching
Naval Engineering: practically oriented training with qualification for maritime machine management, extensive machines and systems of ship aggregates (www.hs-flensburg.de/mz). Mechanical Engineering/Systems Engineering: Focus on computer-aided design and calculation of processes and products with methodical design and engineering simulation as an industry-independent approach --> versatile graduates. Extensive range of tutorials (mathematics, mechanics, physics, e-technology etc.). In systems engineering, students are taught in projects.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
The following partner universities are available for foreign study periods: Mechanical Engineering: Syddansk Universitet, Odense + Sønderborg; Högskolan i Jönköping; Linnéuniversitet, Växjö/Kalmar; Universidad de Burgos. Naval Engineering: Maritime University of Szczecin. Together with Syddansk Universitet (SDU) we offer a certificate for students with a German Bachelor's degree and a Danish Master's degree, which proves their intercultural experience when they do a practical / project in the border region.
  • Exchange universities for stay abroads
Syddansk Universitet, Odense+Sonderborg, Dänemark; Högskolan i Jönköping, Schweden; Linnéuniversitet, Växjö/Kalmar, Schweden; Universidad de Burgos, Burgos, Spanien; Maritime University of Szcezecin, Polen
  • Special features regarding the equipment
Naval Engineering: extensive technical equipment of ship aggregates on a 1:1 scale in a machine hall, external campus on the Baltic Sea (Förde) with testing facilities (large-scale engine, ballast water treatment, etc.); Mechanical Engineering/Systems Engineering: extensive equipment with engineering simulation software in laboratories and freely available work rooms; In addition, extensive laboratory equipment in Drive Engineering, Process Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Special features regarding research and development
Naval Engineering: Large engine operation; Ballast water treatment; After-treatment of exhaust gases. Mechanical Engineering/Systems Engineering: Biogas Technology/Process Engineering); Electromobility with a focus on rural areas; Hydraulic treatment processes; Innovative production and development processes for SME; Additive manufacturing processes; Operational stability of materials and machine elements
  • Support for founders
The university is a partner of a competence centre for medium-sized business research, which deals with the process of successful business start-ups, among other things.
  • Other special features
FabLab with FDM printers which can be used for a variety of tests and hands-on learning. During special events, the FabLab is also open to schoolchildren or regional industry partners.
