Special features regarding the international orientationThe mechanical engineering department offers a wide range of subjects. This is reflected in the cooperation with foreign universities and consortia. In 2008, the department of Mechanical Engineering became the first German higher education institution to offer the European Project Semester. Through active membership in the consortia of the Sino-German University for Applied Science, the Indo-German Center of Higher Education and the Mexican university, among others, students are offered established exchange programmes, some of which with the option to do a double degree.

Other special featuresThe Mechanical Engineering department was one of the six finalists for the award of the VDMA Initiative "Best Machine Hall in Germany 2015" due to its diverse training projects and low drop-out rate and it was also named the transfer university Schl.-H. in the VDMA competition (Best Praxis). The department also offers dual degrees based on the industry-accompanied degree model: Theoretical knowledge is combined with practical work experience and, as a combination of degree course and work, is an excellent way of entering the world of work and offers financial independence
