Special features regarding teachingSmall teaching and learning groups, good staff-student ratio; Short routes and good contact between students and professors; Individual subject-specific and general support and guidance (principle of the open office door); Access to the buildings at any time for self-study, exam preparation and to write project and research papers24 hours a day, 7 days a week; Offer tutorials in the basic subjects to reinforce learning material and prepare for examinations; Of the 26 professorships, 6 are filled with female professors, high proportion of women for technical departments.
-
Special features regarding the international orientationThere are 20 partnerships with foreign universities for student and lecturer exchange. Information about and support for semesters abroad. Country officers among the professors with good contacts to foreign partner universities or placement options for work placements abroad. Operating an international event point.
-
Special features regarding the equipmentThe laboratories are fitted with state-of-the-art equipment. It is kept up-to-date through applications for large-scale equipment and regular investments in e.g.: PC pools, 3D CAD, CAM, NC machining centre, NC turning centre, die sinking EDM machine, 3D-coordinate-measurement machine, cleanroom, autonomous robots, scanning electron microscope, destructive and non-destructive materials testing, dynamometers, combined heat and power plant, wind tunnel, plasma cutting machine, driving cycle simulation system, hydraulics, pneumatics, measurement and automatic control technology, various 3D printers, µm X-ray CT, large wind turbine, hydrogen filling station, and much more.
-
Special features regarding research and developmentMany projects in cooperation with local industry/throughout Germany. Integration of students as student assistants, in project work and final theses, e.g.: Development of small gas turbine, human/robot cooperation in clean rooms, Mathematics: Threshold theory, magnesium alloys in lightweight construction and medicine, use of renewable raw materials for energy, health engineering, additive manufacturing, multi-dimensional massive forming, multi-phase flow optimisation in beer brewing, adaptive and active chassis units for motorcycles, simulation of transport processes
-
Support for foundersUniversity's own start-up service with the joint project StartUp-NordOst and the start-up agency Stapellauf NORDOST, support for the creation of prototypes in 3D printing, advice in the area of business plan creation
-
Other special featuresWe are certified as a family-friendly university. Due to the small size of the university, interaction is intimate and friendly. The PC pools are accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Professors have an open-door policy, and meetings can be arranged at short notice... and the booth is right behind the university.

(ME)= Mechanical Engineering (IntDiscip)= very interdisciplinary and thus not classified;
As the ranking is done for the whole subject area, for the single "sub-subjects" it can happen that not all rank groups are represented in all criteria.
