Special features regarding teachingAccompanying practicals/exercises for intensive engagement with the teaching content. Different types of projects prepare students for various aspects of professional activity. Practice-relevant teaching components. Possible collaboration in practice-oriented research projects. In small project groups, engineering tasks and project management skills are practised in a goal-oriented way. During the project work, a development process is tested for the practical phase of the occupational practice. Complementary exercises are available to help individual students in the case of large differences in academic performance.

Special features regarding the international orientationIn the MB area, there are 2 intern. continuing education courses towards the Master’s degree in Technical Management (MBIDA). Students from many different countries come together in Emden. Graduates of the B.Eng. Mechanical Engineering & Design can also apply for the Master's degree course in Engineering Physics which is offered jointly with the Technology department at the Universität Oldenburg. The department of Engineering has numerous partnerships with international universities and companies that can be used for stays abroad. CPs can be recognised on request. Student Projects with intern. competitions (e.g. Monaco/NL).

Special features regarding the equipmentThe department of Engineering has laboratories with modern equipment. The technical equipment meets state-of-the-art industry standards. Details of the individual laboratories can be found online. The Laboratories for Plant Engineering, CAD, Mechatronics, Production Engineering, Process Engineering, Rapid Prototyping and the Design Laboratory offer students the opportunity to receive practical training with individual supervision under realistic conditions. Research projects and interdisciplinary student projects supply additional incentives.

Special features regarding research and developmentThe profile of the technology department includes various research institutes. Students have the opportunity to participate in research activities. Current key areas of research include: Energy efficiency in production, knowledge transfer, logistics, energy and environmental engineering, industrial informatics, university didactics, e-learning, and Green Tech Ostfriesland.

Support for foundersGeneral information and funding opportunities and special offers provided by the knowledge and research transfer centre and the in-house centre for continuing education. Opportunity to participate in the seminar on business start-ups with external lecturers. Links exist on this topic with the city of Emden (Zukunft Emden/start-up centre), the Ems-Achse and associations (VDE/VDI). Other special featuresThe Emden campus has short distances and an excellent student-teacher ratio. In addition to competition-winning student projects such as the battery-powered screwdriver race, solar boat or HyperPod, excursions to relevant companies or trade shows in areas of specialisation have enhanced the popularity of the degree course. FabLab with Repair Café, mechan. workshop with free access. Student parties on campus, a university cinema and sport programme as well as the 'Getting acquainted' weekend on Borkum for first-semester students are just as appealing as the cultural activities offered by the city of Emden.
