Special features regarding teachingThe department of Seafaring and Logistics is practice-oriented and integrative. This is done by professors, lecturers from practice and multi-day excursions in Germany and abroad. Former graduates are also integrated into teaching process thanks to an extensive alumni network. Project studies ensure the link between the individual course contents. Students learn in a family-friendly and service-oriented environment. Professors and staff are always available.

Special features regarding the international orientationThe department maintains intensive contact with over 44 international universities, thus allowing for a close coordination of the curricula. All courses are designed so that students can schedule stays abroad without adding to the length of their studies. The department offers a course of study entirely in English.

Special features regarding the equipmentThe lecture halls are always state-of-the-art. Each room features connections to the university's own network and the Internet and is equipped with a projector. Our data centre and the computer pool rooms are equipped with powerful computers. The library includes more than 20,000 volumes about seafaring, maritime and harbour administration and logistics. Around 70 journals and newspapers are available to this end, and always up-to-date. In addition, access is provided via the university network to 160 databases, more than 30,000 electronic journals and newspapers and more than 26,000 e-books.

Support for foundersWhere good ideas come together to form a business model, we offer potential entrepreneurs from the university (staff or students) our support. We offer consulting services, coaching, infrastructure, funding advice and support – free of charge! We work closely with the centre of entrepreneurship and innovation and Promotion of Economic Development. Jade University's Founders' Box provides office workstations for potential entrepreneurs. Annual Founders' Days are general information sessions.

Other special featuresLow number of students: which contributes to the "family" atmosphere at the place of study and a quick integration for newcomers; an average of 20 - 25 students take part in the lectures. Direct contact with lecturers: In and outside the lectures, the close contact with teachers, particularly where support for work placements or Bachelor's/Master's theses is concerned, is promising. Studying abroad; close contact with business; tutorials with specially trained tutors.
