  • Special features regarding teaching
Our professors identify with the Business Informatics section, which students immediately perceive as positive. Almost professors teach exclusively at Business Informatics. We offer students intensive and personal support thanks to a young, motivated and committed group of experienced practitioners. In teaching, we rely on small groups and a high percentage of exercises. The relationship between students and professors is uncomplicated and friendly. The highly committed student council makes valuable contributions to the academic success of students, even outside the course contents.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
Currently, 2 dual degrees in the Bachelor's, and 1 in the Master's. There will soon be a further dual-degree option in the Master's with a university. This does not only promote internationalism, but it also simplifies access to a PhD position. We have numerous international partners, without joint degree. The German-French University Institute of htw Saar (DFHI) is seen as a unique selling point in German-speaking countries. Overall, the regional location of Saarbrücken is optimal within the context of internationalism.
  • Special features regarding the equipment
Currently, technical equipment in automation, manufacturing technologies, robotics, logistics and Industry 4.0 is largely integrated into courses. In connection with the expansion of the campus, space is created for additional laboratories. Students have access to specific publications (via the library), increasingly also through online access. Extensive distance-learning support. Additions: WiFi.
  • Special features regarding research and development
Close cooperation with the Centre for Mechatronics and Automation Technology, the Model Factory, the Logistics Institute Qbing, the Institute for Supply Chain Management, Institute for Future Energy Systems. These institutes currently work on publicly funded research projects, and some privately financed projects, e.g. the project "Analysis tool and strategy development for the simplified grid integration of decentralised feed-ins and future grid loads" is related to the addition of decentralised feed-ins in connection with the energy transition.
  • Website with further information on research activities
  • Support for founders
Award-winning lecture series on start-ups and new business models; EXIST network; Efficient network with regional companies AHW (Working Group University and Industry); The HTW has successfully established an SME Centre. In this way, too, interested parties gain access to the topic.
  • Characteristics of assistance to differently abled persons
The department works closely and intensively with the central representative (Ms Giro) on the topic of "Students with disabilities, chronic or mental illness", regarding, for example, equalisation of disadvantages, course organisation, financing, special exam arrangements. It is in this context that the Saarland University for Technology and Business (htw saar) supports, for the second time, the student survey "studying while impaired – best2", a project by the German Student Union and the German Centre for Higher Education and Science Research.
  • Characteristics of diversity advancement
As the first university in Saarland, htw saar launched the audit process "Promoting Diversity" of the Donors' Association for the Promotion of Science and Humanities in Germany. The htw saar is one of 24 universities that are highly committed to "diversity". Our mission statement sets the following priorities: Knowledge, social responsibility, international networking and strength in research. Values which we live. We have a nursery, and the university participates in the audit Family-Friendly University.
  • Other special features
Combination of interdisciplinary skills in ONE separate section (instead of a matrix organisation). This results in a very close exchange among staff; Close and good cooperation with local companies and organisations. Good links with industry; Memberships include the VWI, VDI, FFBT Industrial Engineering (active working member); We have a high proportion of female students.
