Further information provided by the department

  • Special features regarding teaching
The Diplom degree course in Industrial Engineering is characterised by a diverse, almost equally balanced training in Engineering and Economics. The students can specialise in both technical and economic areas through the choice of two specialisations. Choice for Technology: Industrial Management & Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Supply Engineering, Planning and Operation of Electrical Plants and Environmental Engineering/Sustainability; Choice for Economics: Accounting, Marketing, Personnel, Financing, Logistics, Business Informatics, Company Management.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
The objective is to encourage student exchange. To facilitate this, a module abroad and course-specific recognition modules have been integrated, which allows for more individual recognition. To raise awareness for opportunities abroad, there are regular information sessions, and additional attractive cooperation agreements are concluded with international universities. Students can turn to a staff member of International Consulting as well as a international representative (professor).
  • Special features regarding the equipment
As well as a very well-equipped library and PC booths, various special labs for Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Physical and Instrumental Engineering/Computer Science are available for the students at the WHZ.
  • Special features regarding research and development
Possibility of participation in research and development is available in the field of Applied Research at the Institute for Business Management and the Institute for Management and Information as well as at the technical institutes of the WHZ; The student project Formula Student/Racingteam, which allows research and development projects under supervision, has been very successful.

  • Support for founders
Students and graduates of the department who are interested in start-ups are advised by the founders' network SAXEED. Coupled with an extensive range of seminars on start-ups and individual advice and support, there is a start-up advisor/academic staff member who can contacted (www.saxeed.net).
  • Characteristics of assistance to differently abled persons
All the department's facilities provide barrier-free access. In collaboration with the course programme, sign language interpretation of lectures is provided for hearing-impaired students. In addition, students may contact the examination board to apply for equalisation of disadvantages (with a medical certificate). Students may also contact a representative for students with severe disabilities (liaison) and a staff member for social counselling.
  • Characteristics of diversity advancement
The university/department has a varied range of services for information, counselling and support (locating daycare, childcare rooms, etc.), assisting students who care for family members, with child care issues (including in the event of illness), as well as students with disabilities. Currently, the university is developing a diversity concept, and there is one working group: Diversity, Equal Opportunity, Family Friendly University, organising multi-day theme weeks on "diversity".
