Special features regarding teachingInnovative teaching-learning concept which has won many awards: 4-1 model; Four weeks of lectures are followed by a project week when the students independently work on industry-related and application-based tasks in small groups; Starter module with special starter projects to orient students in the subject; High practical and application-related orientation, high proportion of projects, many assistant lecturers working in the field.; Interdisciplinary cooperation between students and teaching staff in the department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Technical Journalism.

Special features regarding the international orientationInternational partnerships and courses, International Office, Welcome Centre for incoming students, Study Buddy programme for international students, international guest academics, stays abroad of own staff (teacher exchange, Erasmus, DAAD, etc.), defined mobility window in the fifth Bachelor's semester, additional certificate "International Engineer", over 30 languages offered in the Language Centre, cross-cultural communication in the syllabus.

Other special featuresThe EMT department is the recipient of the university prize awarded by the German Engineering Association for "Best Machine Hall 2015" for special and innovative teaching concepts. The "StartGut" support programme is the recipient of the 2014 award for innovative early study phases (Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft (Donors' Association for the Promotion of Science and Humanities in Germany)). Prof. Winzker received the IEEE Education Award for project-based teaching in 2015; IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) is the largest technical professional association in the world; the prize was awarded to a German for the first time ever. The university's teaching award in 2012 and 2014 went to the EMT department.
