-
Special features regarding the international orientationThe university has partnerships with 74 universities in 33 countries (primarily in Europe). The exchange and recognition of modules is promoted. The Department of AI has two double degree programmes in Industrial Engineering: through CDHAW with Tongji University; Shanghai; China and through DHIk with Tec de Monterrey; Mexico. The international Industrial Engineering programme includes English-taught modules and a compulsory semester abroad. The Bachelor work placement and the Master’s thesis can be completed abroad.
-
Special features regarding the equipmentLaboratories for Physics and Electrical Engineering to consolidate basic knowledge; State-of-the-art, application-oriented laboratories in the field of renewable energies for wind power, solar thermal and photovoltaic, biomass and energy storage combined in a virtual power plant (large DFG device); state-of-the-art, application-oriented automation technology laboratories for sensors / actuators, industrial robots, drive technology linked by process control technology; application-oriented IT labs with a focus on database systems and business process automation with ERP systems.
-
Special features regarding research and developmentA large number of application-oriented R&D projects are usually carried out with companies by teachers of the course (see for example ICT; energy efficiency, environmental technology; Industry 4.0; see research report); students can work as academic assistants or as part of team projects, laboratory equipment for R&D projects is also used in teaching, labs can be used for Master's theses, support for student R&D work as preliminary work for starting a business; for Master degree: R&D project with 15 ECTS is part of the curriculum.

Support for foundersStart-ups are supported through various session formats: Events / workshops for the development of ideas and business concepts; formats to bring students of technical fields together with business economists and other specialist disciplines. Once a year, a 3-day event – Innovation Days – is organised where all necessary steps are explained and presented by experts, from idea generation to business plan. Students and external experts manage an EGO Summer Academy for pupils.
-
Other special featuresThe degree course in Industrial Engineering enables students to develop their own individual profile in accordance with their interests and admission requirements; this is supported by small study groups. In the international direction of the course, profile building also takes place at a partner university, so that technical and intercultural interest can be very well combined. Practical requirements are continually taken into account by the Industrial Engineering advisory board when designing the courses on offer.
