Special features regarding teachingEngineering based, university, interdisciplinary course of study that takes into account both the modern developments in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology in the fields of Automation Technology, Electrical Energy Technology, Information and Communication Technology and the imparting of basic knowledge of Economics; courses are offered by the relevant economic and engineering experts; curricular research projects; involvement in current research activities.
-
Special features regarding the equipmentHigh-quality laboratory equipment (for example clean rooms [semiconductor technology, microsystem technology], the largest absorber hall [electromagnetic compatibility] at a university in Europe, fuel cell laboratory, image processing, medical technology), which are used both in research and in teaching. This means that the students can be offered laboratory practicals in all the major fields. This concerns basic studies as well as subsequent specialist studies. There are computer rooms with subject-specific software, meaning that there are also good conditions for computer-supported exercises.
-
Special features regarding research activitiesThe Bachelor thesis enables the students to participate in the scientific development of interdisciplinary research and to prepare scientific facts.
-
Support for foundersAt the Otto-von-Guericke University in Magdeburg, start-ups are supported by the Transfer and Incubator Centre. A team of experts for start-ups in natural science subjects and incubator laboratories are available to interested parties. Professional guidance is ensured from the business idea to the implementation of the first prototype.
-
Other special featuresThe versatility in research and teaching is reflected in the numerous links to other types of Engineering and to Natural Sciences, Medicine and Economics. The faculty works closely with national and international research facilities, e.g. there are close links to the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems, the Fraunhofer Institute for Factory Operation and Automation, the Institut für Automation und Kommunikation (Institute for Automation and Communication) and other research facilities in the town and VDE of Magdeburg.
