Special features regarding teachingThe course of study follows the concept “Learning culture, individual skills development for engineers – LiKe Ing”, for which the Faculty 10 has been recognised twice in a row with the “University Award Machine Hall” by the VDMA (2013 and 2015). The course of study is characterised by a skill-oriented curriculum, a project-oriented study structure and accompanying quality assurance measures. We ensure professional competence and equal opportunities in development through diversity- and skill-based teaching/learning arrangements.
-
Special features regarding the international orientationFaculty of 10 of the Technical University in Cologne, on account of its Industrial Engineering, is a member of the university consortium with the Chinese-German University of Applied Sciences at the Tongji University, Shanghai. In this context, a dual degree is awarded to Bachelor in Industrial Engineering students (German BA students in the last year in Shanghai, Chinese BA students in the last year in Gummersbach).
-
Special features regarding the equipmentTechnical equipment is state-of-the-art and is constantly updated. There are numerous well-equipped laboratories (for example for robotics and fluid dynamics) and licenses for the common software for Industrial Engineering.
-
Special features regarding research and developmentNumerous research projects are centred at the Faculty for Computer Science and Engineering Sciences. Apart from the key research areas Software Quality (Computer Science) and COSA approved by the German Federal Ministry for Innovation, Science, Research and Technology (MIWFT), as well as the STEPS competence platform funded by the MIWFT, research and development comprises various partnerships with regional and national industry.

Support for foundersThe start-up service of the TH Köln – University of Applied Sciences comprehensively supports students interested in starting a business with their ideas, networking and financing options. The TH Köln is also a member of the HochschulGründerNetzwerkCologne hgnc. At the faculty itself there is a community interested in start-ups as well as numerous events. An incubator program and room are planned for SoSe 2021. Those interested in starting a business can get advice on their start-up ideas free of charge and without obligation. Business plan courses are offered regularly (also as part of the curriculum).
-
Other special featuresAll beginners in Engineering Sciences at the Gummersbach campus complete the basic study stage together. In this orientation phase, students can evaluate their personal aptitude and interests for the specialisation in the third semester – General Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Electrical/Electronic Engineering. The study concept complies with the central VDI/IW recommendations through compulsory self-assessments, an intensive mentor programme and the integration of projects already during the initial study phase.
