  • Special features regarding teaching
An Industrial Engineer is a generalist with a wide range of technical and economic knowledge. The basic philosophy is the integration of the three areas of man, technology and economy. Technical and economic questions form the core content of this course. The holistic and integrative orientation of Friedberger WI can be seen in modules such as Project Management, Quality Management and Business Simulation. Specialisations are made possible by the specialisations and electives, such as Mechanical Engineering or Facility Management.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
The THM has pursued internationalism for many years as part of self-administration tasks by designated foreign and partnership officers in the specialist departments in cooperation with the centrally located International Office. The WI department has a foreign representative (with deputy). A procedure for recognising achievements made abroad exists. The department tries to provide support and advice to students who are looking for experience abroad.
  • Special features regarding the equipment
Excellent laboratory equipment both in terms of software and hardware. The laboratories are constantly supervised by competent laboratory technicians so that students are able to consolidate the skills outside the lecture theatre as well. CAD laboratory, innovation laboratory, project and process management laboratory, assembly technology laboratory, machine tool laboratory, communication laboratory, as well as laboratories for business simulation, measurement, control and regulation technology, for building automation and virtual reality. New "learning factory", with all essential tasks and processes along the value chain.
  • Special features regarding research and development
Involvement of students as part of student assistants, awarding case studies, theses; machine tools and manufacturing technology, virtual product development and rapid prototyping, health care research and consulting, strategic facility management, project and process management, market analysis and survey research, biometric identification systems); research-oriented workshops with companies in optics and manufacturing technology are offered. New: MakerSpace[@]Lernfabrik as a place for students to find creative solutions to problems.
  • Support for founders
The Research, Transfer and Young Scientists department supports graduates in founding their companies from the university: Entrepreneurs can also use resources from the university in the start-up phase if necessary. The THM offers sessions on start-ups and is a member of the “Start-Ups/Incubators” network in the region. Entrepreneurship Cluster Mittelhessen (ECM) (Central Hesse). As part of the MakerSpace[@]Lernfabrik , the Business Informatics department will also offer weekend events for the start-up of specific product ideas.
  • Other special features
The contact and exchange with our students is very important. For this reason, we have a semester spokesperson for every semester in each course of study. These meet twice a semester together with the QMB and the Dean's Office at the so-called "Round Table WI" to discuss current topics. In this way, the department receives many suggestions that are comprehensibly recorded and followed up in a catalogue of measures. The current courses were created in a strategy process, which aimed to anchor the current trends in society in the course.
