  • Special features regarding teaching
The basic philosophy is to combine the three fields of Man, Technology and Economics. The holistic and integrative approach at Friedberg WI can be seen in many of the modules, such as Academic Work and Methodology, Project Management, Quality Management and Corporate Simulation Game. The philosophy also plays a major role, as technical and economic issues form the core content of this degree course. The WI is a generalist faculty that has a broad spectrum of knowledge. Specialisations are possible through elective subjects.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
The THM has pursued internationalism for many years as part of self-administration tasks through appointed international and partnership representatives in the departments in cooperation with the central international affairs office. In Industrial Engineering, the post of international representative was newly appointed last semester. The simplification of recognition of credits earned abroad has been pushed forward. For those who do not wish to study abroad, the department tries to create an international experience on the home campus, International@Home.
  • Special features regarding the equipment
Excellent laboratory equipment both in terms of software and hardware. The laboratories are constantly supervised by competent laboratory technicians so that students are able to consolidate the skills outside the lecture theatre as well. CAD laboratory, Innovations laboratory, Project and Process Management laboratory, Assembly laboratory, Machine Tool laboratory, Communications laboratory, laboratory for Corporate Business Games and Simulation, Measurement, Control and Regulation Technology laboratory, laboratory for Building Automation, Virtual Reality laboratory.
  • Special features regarding research and development
Professors are involved in TransMIT (Gesellschaft für Technologietransfer mbH); Inclusion of students through collaboration as student assistants, allocation of case studies, final theses; machine tools and production engineering, virtual product development and rapid prototyping, health services research and consultation, strategic facility management, project and process management, marketing analysis and polling research, biometric identification systems); research-oriented workshops are offered with companies working in Optics and Manufacturing Engineering.

  • Support for founders
The unit for research, transfer and young scientists supports THM graduates with the start-up of their companies designed at the university: During the start-up phase, entrepreneurs can use the university’s resources, and TransMIT GmbH handles technology-based start-up and business establishment advice up to the development of business plans. The THM offers sessions on start-ups and is a member of the “Start-Ups/Incubators” network in the region. Entrepreneurship Cluster Mittelhessen (ECM) (Central Hesse).
  • Characteristics of assistance to differently abled persons
Furthermore, the THM is committed to equal opportunities and best possible participation for all its members, students and staff alike, affected by health problems. In its centre for blind and visually impaired students (BliZ), the THM demonstrates its commitment that goes far beyond the legally required framework. It represents an infrastructure that is unique in all of Germany, with exceptional opportunities to support students with health problems. The involvement and participation of all departments is a matter of course.
  • Characteristics of diversity advancement
Given the interdisciplinary orientation of the subject Industrial Engineering, it is only natural that diversity should be extremely profound. Thus, the social skills of department members, aside from their technical and economic orientation, always take centre-stage.
  • Other special features
The contact and exchange with our students is very important. For this reason, we have a semester spokesperson for every semester in each course of study. These meet twice a semester with the QMB (Quality Officer) and the Dean's Office, to discuss current issues. The “round table” that produces a lot of suggestions, which can be comprehensively documented in a catalogue of measures. The current programmes were developed in a strategy process that lasted from 2013 to 2015. The goal was to enshrine in the courses the current trends in society.
