  • Special features regarding teaching
    Focus on practice and career through placements and team projects. From the fourth semester onwards, students are in contact with industry companies every semester as part of teaching events. A large proportion follows a work/study-model course with parallel professional training or an in-depth practical element. Selectable key areas: Production and Logistics, Corporate Management, Vehicle Engineering and Renewable Energies.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
    To be able to attract international students, the faculty continuously expand its English-language course programme. Two degree courses are offered completely in English: Engineering and Management (Bachelor) and Automotive Production Engineering (Master). The International Office, in cooperation with the dean’s office, has an extensive range of information and support services for specific needs of international students.
  • Special features regarding the equipment
    Extensive and modern laboratory equipment. The laboratories are used for teaching and for applied research. As a result, resources are available for continuous modernisation.
  • Special features regarding research and development
    The Faculty is very active in the field of Applied Research, and a number of academic assistants, who are studying for PhDs in the relevant field in collaboration with a university, are funded by third parties. 2 cooperative doctorates in the period 2013-2015.

  • Support for founders
    Start-ups originating in science and research are heavily promoted by politicians and industry. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Centre for Applied Research monitor and support concepts for start-ups from within the environment of the discipline, which often emerge from research projects. Current areas of research in collaboration with the Business School: Start-ups/entrepreneurship; Innovation and Technology Management; Intellectual property management; Strategic Management; Business model innovation; Business design innovation, etc.
  • Characteristics of assistance to differently abled persons
    A professor at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering acts as the representative for students with disabilities at the THI. The representative’s task include advice and information for disabled students and applicants on topics that touch on their equal opportunities at the university, particularly on study and exam requirements as well as structural and technical conditions and requirements, and advisory participation in the consideration and decision regarding applications by students with chronic illness.
  • Characteristics of diversity advancement
    To guarantee equal opportunities for all employees and students, the Faculty offers a range of link and orientation programmes. The share of international students, in particular, has grown substantially in recent years. Support for this group is ensured by the Faculty and the IO. The equality representative of the Faculty and the other advisory services of the universities are available to everyone, especially students and staff members in special circumstances, people with disabilities and people with a migration background.
  • Other special features
    The course is designed so that a semester abroad can be easily integrated; more than 90 partner universities worldwide. Thus, many students have the possibility of completing a semester abroad.
