  • Special features regarding teaching
    Teaching focuses on the challenges of the global economic area, however, also corresponds to the requirements of small and medium-sized companies (technical-economic cross-sectional tasks in personal union); Communication of broad-based basic knowledge (4-semester basic studies); possible specialisation in Mechanical Engineering and Electrical and Electronic Engineering; Because teaching is closely related to practice, students are prepared for the socialisation and work in future professional and academic fields and taught the skills for life-long learning.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
    The Department is actively involved in the Erasmus programme. Most foreign students from outside the EU come from Jordan and China as a result of the consortium with the German-Jordanian University in Amman (Jordan) and the German University Hefei’s (DHH) membership in the consortium.
  • Special features regarding the equipment
    The focus on “state-of-the-art production technologies” represents an essential feature of the technical equipment of the department. Three industrial laboratories have emerged from this focus: Innovative manufacturing processes, materials science and function-optimised lightweight construction. The department places great emphasis on applied research, especially with (SMEs) companies in the region. Examples include “finish-machining” and friction welding. Researchers in the “Innovative manufacturing processes” lab work with state-of-the-art machinery.
  • Special features regarding research and development
    Ability to work on diverse tasks in application and research-related fields; Research content is to be viewed as a unity of teaching and research and as a technology transfer in the field of Engineering, preferably with a regional connection. The content is determined by the institutes for Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Technical Business Administration, which are involved in teaching, and focuses on the technical problem areas and cross-sectional economic areas (incl. Quality/Logistics Management, Market Research and numerous technical fields of application).

  • Support for founders
    Since the 2016 summer semester, a new service has been available to students, graduates and researchers at the University Magdeburg-Stendal: The Start-Up and Transfer Promotion project (or “gründet” to use its German short name) combines all start-up and transfer initiatives and is thus the central point of contact for potential entrepreneurs and researchers at the school.
  • Characteristics of assistance to differently abled persons
    The university has an office for family friendliness, equal opportunities and diversity management, which can prepare a special study programme for students with health issues in cooperation with the department. Affected students can apply for a special pass called “KomPass”.
  • Characteristics of diversity advancement
    The percentage of international students is to be raised further through close cooperation with the university’s International Office. The department is also committed to increasing the share of women, particularly in the technical disciplines.
  • Other special features
    Great emphasis is placed on the integration of theory – the content learnt – and practice. To this end, there are many practicals to consolidate theoretical knowledge. The department also wants to cooperate closely with regional SMEs in order to give students practical industry insights and to support these companies with a supply of young skilled workers.
