-
Special features regarding teachingIntegration of current engineering issues in the lecture material; personal contact between lecturers and students; extensive range of additional exercises and tutorials; optimal learning conditions through small groups (with study rooms for students to further improve The study conditions).
-
Special features regarding the international orientationThere are numerous international collaborations partner universities that encourage Engineering students to spend a period of time studying abroad. Every Chair maintains close contacts with several international research institutions through exchange of scientific knowledge and reciprocal research visits, for example at partner universities. Université de Montréal, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and the Graduate School of Engineering at Chiba University can be mentioned as examples here.
-
Special features regarding the equipmentThe extensive equipment for teaching, practical training and research is continuously being updated and extended. The building of the Technology Alliance of Upper Franconia and the Bayreuth Battery Centre offer the very latest in research facilities with a state-of-the-art technology centre.
-
Special features regarding research activitiesThe research focuses on new materials, energy engineering, environmentally friendly production engineering, bioprocess engineering, automotive engineering and battery engineering.
-
Support for foundersThe university is already regarded as a "founder university", as start-up initiatives are supported centrally. There has been a separate point of contact for this since 2014, the Entrepreneurship & Innovation department. It supports company founders at the University of Bayreuth through classes as well as advice and coaching. Projects are checked for marketability and technical and legal feasibility and are also supported. Students have been able to apply for a leave semester to start a business since the 2018 summer semester.
-
Other special featuresThe faculty is a member of the faculty association for Mechanical and Process Engineering, the study association and the MatWerk faculty association as well as the work placement association; in recent years the high standards set by the relevant supervisory committees have been met.

As the ranking is done for the whole subject area, for the single "sub-subjects" it can happen that not all rank groups are represented in all criteria.
