  • Special features regarding teaching
    The research focus on environmental psychology/human-technology interaction established in the 11/12 winter semester is unique in Germany. Use of modern media: the courses use the e-Learning portals of the university; some of the lectures are also made available as video or audio streams combined with the slides in the e-Learning portal; modern computer pool enables hands-on teaching of the necessary programming and analysis skills. Data analysis teaching uses the browser-based JupyterHub environment, which can be used by all students without a license.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
    There are international partnerships in research and some in teaching, e.g. with the Universities of Oxford and Bath, UK); Radboud Nijmegen, Groningen, Eindhoven and Delft (Netherlands); Bergen (Norway); Duke, Berkeley, CalState, Cornell and Dartmouth College (USA); Barcelona (Spain); Kansai Medical and Nara Women's University (Japan); Rome III (Italy); West University of Timisoara (Romania); Nantes, (France); Campinas (Brazil). The Institute is host to staff and visiting researchers from abroad, including from the UK, USA, Italy, Spain, Poland, China, Japan, Cyprus and India.
  • Special features regarding the equipment
    Several behavioural and EEG laboratories including peripheral psychophysiology and pain stimulation, eye-tracking, access to 3T and 7T MRI scanners, Transcranial magnet stimulation TMS. Computer cluster, which is used in teaching and by students for research-intensive thesis projects.
  • Special features regarding research activities
    Close content-based and methodological links with partners of the neuro focus in Magdeburg (Clinic for Neurology, Deutsches Zentrum für Neurodegenerative Erkrankungen (German Centre for Neurodegenerative illnesses), Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology). The institute is a core component of the cross-faculty Center for Behavioral Brain Sciences (CBBS) which offers a wide range of opportunities for students to participate in current research in the neurosciences in the context of practicals and final dissertations.
  • Other special features
    The degree courses and neuroscience research projects of the institute are integrated into the junior staff promotion strategy of the Center for Behavioral Brain Sciences(CBBS). Structured programmes provide psychology graduates hoping for a career in academia up to postdoctoral level with numerous opportunities for advancement and further training. BSc/MSc students benefit directly from this network, as graduates continue to have ties with the region and make their own contributions to modern teaching.
