Special features regarding teachingDue to the close relationship between aspects of Computer Science and Energy Engineering, the study of mechatronics takes account of modern developments in increasingly complex electronic systems. The course therefore includes a particular focus on teaching basic knowledge and specialist knowledge as well as acquiring the ability to work using scientific methods, to independently get to grips with the many different tasks associated with application and development and to master the frequently changing tasks arising in the course of everyday work.
-
Special features regarding the international orientationERASMUS cooperation with Eindhoven University of Technology/Netherlands; ERASMUS cooperation with University College Cork/Republic of Ireland; close cooperation with Wrocław University of Technology/Poland, [Donetsk National Technical University (Ukraine) currently not possible], Kharkov National Technical University (Ukraine).
-
Special features regarding the equipmentThere are high-quality laboratory facilities, e.g. clean rooms (semi-conductor technology, microsystems technology), the largest anechoic chamber (electromagnetic compatibility) at a German university, fuel cell laboratory, image processing and medical technology, which are used for both research and teaching purposes. This means that the students can be offered laboratory practicals in all the major fields. This concerns basic studies as well as subsequent specialist studies. There are computer rooms with subject-specific software, meaning that there are good conditions for computer-supported exercises.
-
Special features regarding research activitiesRobotics and Energy Engineering, Drive and Communications Engineering is researched and taught within the framework of the automation of industrial process (e.g. Biotechnology), the development and miniaturisation of sensors as well as software development and simulation. There are ultramodern laboratories for alternative electric energy sources (e.g. photovoltaics, wind energy, fuel cells), power electronics and electromagnetic compatibility (anechoic chamber), image processing and neurocomputing, cognitive systems (language processing), microsystems technology and medical technology (including CT, MRI).

Support for foundersTechnology and start-up centre of the OVGU, state project ego.start, support and coaching of start-ups
-
Other special featuresThe versatility in research and teaching is reflected in the numerous links to other types of Engineering and to Natural Sciences, Medicine and Economics. The faculty works closely with national and international research facilities, e.g. there are close links to the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems, the Fraunhofer Institute for Factory Operation and Automation, the Institute for Automation and Communication, and other research facilities in the town of Magdeburg. Volunteer mentors.
