Special features regarding teachingThe two faculties of "Energy, Process and Bio-Engineering" and "Engineering Design, Production Engineering and Automotive Engineering" were established under the general umbrella of "Die Fakultäten des Stuttgarter Maschinenbaus" (The Faculties of Mechanical Engineering in Stuttgart). A special feature here is the large number of professorships in the fields of Product Development/Construction Engineering on the one hand and Production and Manufacturing Engineering on the other. The associated diversity in subjects and the resulting possibilities for cooperation are a unique feature of Universität Stuttgart in Germany.
-
Special features regarding the international orientationIn addition to numerous Erasmus exchange options and direct collaborations between institutes, an ever-growing number of double Master's courses is also being offered which allow students to study for a year in China, Japan, Sweden, Spain or Brazil, as is a joint degree with one of the best US universities (Georgia Institute of Technology).
-
Special features regarding the equipmentNumerous practical training experiments and other technical facilities have been modernised in recent years. Very good cooperation with computer centre and university library to offer new services.
-
Special features regarding research activitiesARENA 2036 research campus; Graduate School of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (GSaME); SimTech (Cluster of Excellence); Research Institute of Automotive Engineering and Vehicle Engines Stuttgart, wind tunnel; supercomputer of the high-performance computing centre and many more.
-
Support for foundersNew MASTER's: ONLINE degree course in Intra- and Entrepreneurship (tech); Excellent cooperation with the Technology Transfer Initiative (TTI GmbH) of Stuttgart University
-
Other special featuresAll Engineering degree courses always focus on the link to professional practice, but this does not contradict a more research-based approach since current and future mechanical engineering products cannot be developed without extensive research. The link to professional practice is already considered when the professors are appointed; they generally bring with them several years' professional industry experience from positions of responsibility and incorporate their procedures and thinking into the training.
