Further information provided by the department

  • Special features regarding teaching
The Bachelor's degrees are part of the Life Sciences network; I.e. the core science subjects are taught jointly in all the three Bachelor's degrees. The network also enables the full recognition of modules when students change course within the network during the first two semesters. In addition to the university lecturers, the faculty also has a large number of laboratory and teaching staff who enable and support the practical training in the laboratories, which is a major part of the course. Findings from research (see below) are regularly incorporated into teaching.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
The university's location in the border triangle means there are many different partnerships with institutions and joint courses with the Czech Republic and Poland. Strong partnerships are also in place with Russian and Kazakh universities. The HSZG is a member of the Baltic University Programme, where it is represented by the department; the membership provides students with additional contacts and the opportunity to participate in summer schools (e.g. a two-week sailing tour).
  • Exchange universities for stay abroads
Yrkeshögskolan Novia, Vaasa, Finnland; Università degli Studi fi Padova, Padua, Italien; Deutsch-Kasachische Universität, Almaty, Kasachstan; Klaipedos universitetas, Klaipeda, Litauen; Politechnika Lodzka, Lodz, Polen; Uniwersytet Opolski, Oppeln, Polen; ITMO University, St. Petersburg, Russische Föderation; Kostroma State University, Kostroma, Russische Föderation; Universidad de Navarra, Pamplona, Spanien; Univerzita Karlova v Praze, Prag, Tschechische Republik
  • Special features regarding the equipment
The faculty has excellent laboratory facilities (e.g. 400 Mhz-NMR spectrometers, modern bioreaction systems and fermenters, etc.) including several special laboratories (S1 laboratories for biolog. safety, semi-industrial plants for sorting and recycling technology). Students and staff have access to a wide range of electronic media via the university library, such as almost all relevant specialist journals as well as many textbooks in the form of e-books (e.g. Springer). Access is also provided to databases such as Scopus and SciFinder as well as DIN full texts and much more.
  • Special features regarding research and development
The faculty is actively involved in several major projects and maintains many partnerships. To name a few examples: Coordination and research in the LaNDER3 project (funded by the BMBF initiative FH-IMPULS), which does research into natural fibre composites from fibre production to recycling (the only eastern German project which received this funding), and "Sustainability at universities: Develop - Network - Report (Hoch-N)". The high number of research projects means that students can participate as assistants.
  • Other special features
The faculty also offers Master's degrees in the field of integrated management, which deal with standards of quality, environmental, energy and occupational health and safety management systems and look into how companies can optimise their processes in these areas through integrated management systems. This offer is open to all graduates and is extremely application focused - almost every final dissertation is related to a specific company. http://f-n.hszg.de/studienangebot/master-integriertes-management-integrierte-managementsysteme.html

As the ranking is done for the whole subject area, for the single "sub-subjects" it can happen that not all rank groups are represented in all criteria.
