Special features regarding teachingIn addition to a BSc degree course in Chemistry with a focus on Biochemistry or Macromolecular Chemistry, Universität Freiburg offers the bi-national "Regio Chemica" degree course in cooperation with the University of Mulhouse (FR). The Master's degree course in Chemistry offers broad training; interdisciplinary and specialised courses include "Biochemistry and Biophysics" as well as the "Sustainable Materials" course, which focuses on sustainable materials science with three distinct areas.
Special features regarding the international orientationThe faculty, in collaboration with the University of Mulhouse (FR), offers a BSc degree in ‘Regio Chimica’, which is studied in the first year in Mulhouse, in the second year in Freiburg and in the third year at one of the two universities of choice. The MSc degree courses "Biochemistry and Biophysics" and "Sustainable Materials – Polymer Science" each have an international element supported by the University of Strasbourg (FR). The department encourages students to stay abroad and will recognise the credits achieved there after prior consultation.
Support for foundersThe University of Freiburg provides advice on business start-ups. All courses and continuing education in entrepreneurship at the University of Freiburg are coordinated as part of its “Gründungs-Akademie” (start-up academy). The start-up academy provides education and training in entrepreneurial thinking, skills and knowledge and is a service provided by the Entrepreneurial Office of the Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg in cooperation with the Center for Key Qualifications (ZfS). It awards the uniENTREPRENEUR certificate.
Characteristics of assistance to differently abled personsThe faculty follows the guiding principle of Universität Freiburg. Thanks to the new appointment of the post of representative for students with disabilities and its organisational assignment to the Gender and Diversity team, the assignment profile concerning students with disabilities has been expanded. The focus lies on the issues of "information", "guidance" and "raising awareness". In this way, the university is meeting the need of disabled students for information, guidance and support – a need which has increased within the context of the Bologna reforms.
Characteristics of diversity advancementThe faculty follows the guiding principle of Universität Freiburg. Universität Freiburg is a pioneering university – it was not only the first university in Germany to admit women, it also gradually institutionalised policies and work to ensure equal rights. Universität Freiburg has also changed its understanding of equal rights and has expanded it to include the more comprehensive issue of diversity. As such, the aim of the university's equal rights policy is to more effectively take into account the existing heterogeneity of the staff and students at the university.
