Further information provided by the department

  • Special features regarding teaching
Bachelor's: Profiling in the 3rd academic year; Development and application of innovative teaching concepts such as learning through research, close integration of specialist and non-specialist content, early integration into working groups. Teaching staff from local research institutions are integrated into the teaching programmes. Students can attend specialist modules at affiliated or external research institutions. The department participates in several graduate schools and colloquia.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
Through a partnership with the École européenne de chimie, polymères et matériaux de Strasbourg (ECPM), it is possible to obtain a double degree Master of Science (University of Bremen) – Diplôme d'ingénieur – Grade de Master (Université de Strasbourg). In the course of five years of study (B.Sc. + M.Sc.) two years must be completed at the ECPM.
  • Characteristics of assistance to differently abled persons
We work closely with the KIS (Contact and Information Office for students with disabilities or chronic illnesses; http://www.uni-bremen.de/index.php?id=2783) to promote students with health impairments. We give the students special support in exercising their right to disadvantage compensation for coursework and examinations. Disadvantage compensation can, for example, take the form of extending the time needed to take written examinations or by replacing one form of examination with another. The academic office advises students with health impairments accordingly.
  • Characteristics of diversity advancement
The issues of diversity and heterogeneity play a key role in the department to ensure that the resulting potential can be exploited and individual disadvantages compensated. When planning the courses, the needs of lecturers with families are taken into account (childcare times, holidays).
