  • Special features regarding teaching
    Graduates of the undergraduate Bachelor's degree course in Chemistry at Universität des Saarlandes can choose between three different Master's courses (Chemistry, Biotechnology, Materials Chemistry) depending on the research focus. The teacher training courses have a high proportion of practically oriented courses, in particular in the field of subject-related Didactics. In general, the Department of Chemistry encourages close contact between the students and assistant professors of the department.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
    Universität des Saarlandes is one of the universities in Germany with the highest proportion of foreign students. A special relationship exists with the neighbouring country of France. The Department of Chemistry offers a Bachelor's degree course in Chemistry in two German-French variants. There is also a German-French variant of the Master’s degree course in Chemistry. There are also particularly close ties to the East China University of Science and Technology in Shanghai. A German-Korean partnership is currently being initiated in the Master’s degree programme Materials Chemistry.
  • Support for founders
    As part of the Master’s degree programme, students can take courses in entrepreneurship and patent law and include them in their compulsory elective courses. These courses are especially designed for students from the natural sciences and technology.
  • Characteristics of assistance to differently abled persons
    Support for students with permanent health impairments is a special concern of the Department of Chemistry at Universität des Saarlandes. The new practical training building for Inorganic Chemistry has laboratory stations with wheelchair access. Lecture theatres and seminar rooms in the department are on the ground floor or can be reached by lift. Other activities are carried out by the "Academic Studies and Disabilities" centre of the "Equal Opportunities" administrative department which is affiliated with the Presidential Board of Universität des Saarlandes (disadvantage compensation, part-time study, etc.).
  • Characteristics of diversity advancement
    Since 2004, Universität des Saarlandes has been certified as a "family-friendly university" by berufundfamilie Gmbh and works to ensure equality and equal opportunity for men and woman consistent with the diversity strategy. The respective activities are carried out jointly by the "Equal Opportunities" administrative department, which is affiliated with the Presidential Board of Universität des Saarlandes, and with the Equality Office.
