Special features regarding teachingThe teaching at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Biology not only includes courses from the areas of Chemistry and Biochemistry, but also from Bioorganic Chemistry, Bioinorganic Chemistry, Biophysical Chemistry and Macromolecular Chemistry. The curriculum is complemented by courses in the Didactics of Chemistry and courses that are offered in cooperation with the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology, the Leibniz Research Centre for Working Environment and Human Factors, the Department of Biochemical and Chemical Engineering and other institutions.

Special features regarding the international orientationThanks to the very open degree structure, courses completed abroad can easily be recognised, particularly for the Master's degree course. Research placements and final theses completed abroad can also easily be integrated into the course. In order to promote the option to study abroad, the faculty maintains numerous cooperation agreements as part of the Erasmus+ exchange programme and offers in-depth personal guidance.

Support for foundersTU Dortmund University initiates, promotes and values company start-ups and transfer from science. It actively supports its students, graduates and staff members with developing and implementing business ideas, with evaluation, registration and utilisation of inventions and patents, and with knowledge and technology transfer. The diverse services and initiatives are concentrated in the “Centre for Entrepreneurship & Transfer”. The tu>startup initiative and knowledge and technology transfer at TU Dortmund University have received several distinctions.

Characteristics of assistance to differently abled personsThe Disability and Studying (DoBuS) section of the Centre for Higher Education at TU Dortmund University supports and advises students and all teaching staff and bodies on didactic, structural, social and organisational matters. DoBuS provides knowledge, documents and technologies that are needed for successful study. For students with impairments, individual solutions are developed wherever possible to enable those affected to take part in all courses and examinations in a manner that is appropriate for them.

Characteristics of diversity advancementTU Dortmund University has established a central structure for diversity and equal opportunity issues. Gender-sensitive early-stage support in science, transparency of appointments procedures, gender-sensitive public relations and gender controlling are as much a part of diversity management as support with childcare, implementing reasonable adjustments and dual career provisions. In 2012 the university completed the “Vielfalt gestalten” audit of the Stifterverband der Deutschen Wissenschaft and received a distinction for its diversity strategy.
