  • Special features regarding teaching
    Distinctive practical training in the Bachelor's and Master's degree courses in Chemistry; strong interdisciplinary orientation of Biomedical Chemistry in the Bachelor's and Master's programs through cooperation with other disciplines (Medicine, Biology, Pharmacy); to ensure high quality, networking with other departments in teaching; very broad range of courses in Chemistry; non-university research institutions on campus that are also involved in teaching; cooperation with the Universities of Frankfurt and Darmstadt with cross-university attendance of courses.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
    High proportion of students who spend a semester abroad as part of the Master's degree course. Stays abroad are supported by foreign information evenings and foreign counselling. In addition, we offer partnerships with a number of universities for exchange programmes as well as some Erasmus cooperations. Furthermore, there is a growing number of courses in English to increase the attractiveness for incoming students.
  • Special features regarding the equipment
    State-of-the-art teaching and research buildings are available for the chemical subjects. Furthermore, the chemistry department has modern analytical equipment for research and teaching.

    Support for setting up a company is offered by the JGU Department of Research and Technology Transfer.

    In Mainz, a large number of specialisations are possible in the Chemistry degree course (B. Sc. and M. Sc.). Including biochemistry, radiochemistry, nuclear chemistry, macromolecular chemistry, theoretical chemistry, analytical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, electrochemistry. The degree course Biomedical Chemistry (B. Sc. and M. Sc.) allows a variety of further specialisation options. The University of Mainz is a campus university, which means that distances are short and interdisciplinary cooperation with other subjects is guaranteed.
