Special features regarding teachingBusiness Administration, Economics and Law are considered and taught in an inter-disciplinary way. Despite Economic Sciences being a popular subject, numerous required elective modules, a variety of key skills courses and alternative forms of teaching/learning (simulation games, problem-based learning, workshops, etc.) are offered. is on offer. Some of the courses are conducted in English; Courses are evaluated; Lectures repeatedly awarded the “Teaching Prize”, most recently in 2013; Semester abroad planning is made easy through flexibly designed modules and exams.
Special features regarding the international orientationInternational representatives, dual Master’s programme with the University of Groningen (MSc Water & Coastal Management and Master in Infrastructure and Spatial Planning), numerous German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) projects with international partners.

Special features regarding the equipmentOwn computer rooms; the central IT services unit operates the central IT infrastructure at Universität Oldenburg. This includes a High Performance Cluster, server for central services such as e-mail, Internet, FTP, groupware, a learning management system (StudIP). The IT services provide network access and webspace for all students, staff and alumni. All lecture theatres and seminar rooms are equipped with projectors.
Special features regarding research activitiesInter-disciplinary key research areas (FSP) Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management, Transnational Economics and Law in the Information Society , Environmental Economics and Sustainable Management and Teaching-Learning-Qualification Research. The RF are included in the Master's degree courses as part of specialisations; Excellent Economics at the OL University.

Support for foundersProfessors Nicolai (Entrep.), Birkner (Fem. Entrep.) and Fichter (Innovation Mgt.) are directly involved in supporting start-ups. The affiliated EFNW institute of the department provides training and coaching for entrepreneurs. In the course of the last EXIST initiative, the University of Oldenburg was recognised as one of the leading entrepreneur universities in Germany. The EXIST initiative originated from the endowed chair of Entrepreneurship. It also in connection with this measure that the Start-Up and Innovation Centre emerged, which covers the entire spectrum of start-up support.
