  • Special features regarding teaching
In teaching, quantitative approaches are predominantly, though not exclusively, used. This is a result of the recognition that complex, interdependent economic facts can often be more precisely described and communicated using mathematical methods. In addition, we pursue three subjects – Business Administration, Economics and Methodology – in almost equal weighting in the Bachelor's and Master's courses in Economic Sciences. In the English-taught Master of Quantitative Economics, students can apply for the Erasmus Mundus programme QEM (Models and Methods of Quantitative Economics).
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
The Faculty of Economic Sciences has numerous international partnerships with various European universities. Credits earned at a university abroad can be recognised and integrated easily into the Bachelor or Master in Economic Sciences by selecting special modules. Students of the English-taught Master of Quantitative Economics can complete an Erasmus programme abroad. Students can also apply for the Erasmus Mundus programme QEM (Models and Methods of Quantitative Economics).
  • Common partner universities for exchange
Universidat Autònoma de Barcelona, Spain; Universita`di Bologna, Italy; Københavns Universitet, Denmark; Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal; Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna Pisa, Italy; University of Essex, England; École Supérieure de Commerce de Rennes, France; Université Paris1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, France; Université catholique de Louvain, France; Università Ca' Foscari di Venezia, Italy
  • Special features regarding the equipment
Excellent library, lecture theatres with outstanding media equipment, very good hardware and software in all fields, functioning and broad electronic course catalogue, free WiFi across the campus for students, there are also approx. 300 public PC workstations in the University that have direct Internet access.
  • Special features regarding research activities
In research too, quantitative approaches are pursued in the case of theoretical and empirical projects in order to better describe and communicate interdependent economic facts using mathematical methods. In doing so, the level of Economic research is particularly prominent in various international rankings. The Faculty also offers an English-language Master's course in Quantitative Economics with a double degree.

  • Support for founders
The Start-Up Management modules teaches fundamental subject-specific and methodological skills for start-up management. In several courses, students are thus given an overview of the central requirements in the start-up process, as well as of the possible “tools” and/or alternative approaches to meet those requirements. Not least, these skills are consolidated on the basis of this insight into the start-up practice. Bachelor and Master students can take the module as part of “Individual Supplementation”.
  • Characteristics of assistance to differently abled persons
The Faculty has a decentralised representative for students with disabilities or chronic illness, who looks after the requirements of students with chronic health issues.
  • Characteristics of diversity advancement
The University of Bielefeld offers a comprehensive range of assistance and advisory services for students and staff to promote diversity in terms of gender, nationality, ethnic and socio-cultural origin, religion, beliefs, disability or (chronic) illness, age and sexual orientation.
  • Other special features
The Faculty is committed to familiarising young high performers at an early stage of life with the region and its companies through its programme Best Undergraduates to Bielefeld University in cooperation with a series of companies in the Ostwestfalen-Lippe region. Particularly successful secondary-school graduates and students complete an intensive advancement programme (BU2BU); Endowed chair of Business Administration – Management of Family Businesses since September 2015; The Faculty has close staff-based connections to the Institute of Mathematical Economics.
