  • Special features regarding teaching
    The profile of the degree courses is aligned to the research profile of the Faculty whilst also providing flexibility for the students to choose individual specialisations; Currently relevant key areas: AccFin, IntlBusiness; Bachelor's: Semester abroad built into the curriculum (internationally renowned partner universities), Economics combined with foreign language training, can be easily linked to Master's course; Master's: Master's programmes inherently focused on application (GenMan increased, AccFin decreased), linked to the strongly research-oriented option to transition to structured doctoral studies.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
    Periods of one to two semesters abroad can be completed at one of the many partner universities of Tübingen as part of the programmes. In the Erasmus+ programme alone, students at the Faculty of Economic Sciences can choose from 38 partner universities in Europe. They can also attend universities in other parts of the world thanks to the university’s partnerships. Around 40% of Bachelor’s courses and over 70% of Master’s courses are taught in English. Various dual Master’s options (I, F, AUS), more are planned, MSc. International Business with Africa and Asia.

    Very well-equipped computer centre with campus licences for common software, all lecture theatres fitted with permanently installed projectors, some have multimedia equipment and whiteboards as well. Well-equipped faculty library with specialist staff and student workstations, incl. computer equipment. Electronically based platform for conducting taught courses (ILIAS) with elements of e-learning. Good student support with databases for empirical work.

    In large parts, focus on quantitative empirical research in the fields of Financial Marketing, Accounting, Personnel Management, Marketing, International Business and the Junior Research Group for University Economics, publications in international specialist journals with peer review process; third-party funding from German Research Foundation and from industry.

    Cooperation of the company contact point with GUT (Start-Ups at the University of Tübingen): Advice for students with a start-up or innovative idea: Assistance with finding funding, feedback, essential questions on entrepreneurship, finding office space, advice on the where and how of professional independence, advice on final thesis and research.

    Cooperation with the guidance centre for students with disabilities and chronic illness.
  • Characteristics of diversity advancement
    The Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences took a survey of the status quo in a diversity study in 2012. In 2014, the Faculty Council adopted “framework guidelines of the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences for dealing with students with family responsibilities” as well as “proposals for standardised compensation at the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences to improve family-friendliness” for all subjects. These measures are to clarify responsibilities and provide assistance to all involved.

    Outstanding research and teaching; High-profile honorary, visiting professors; Range of topics in research and teaching: From banking finance and marketing to P&O as well as economic history, from empirical economic research to economic theory, from international business to international accounting; Focus on International Economic Relations is unique in Germany; Studying abroad: Around 2/3 of students spend one semester abroad in one of over 40 countries; 50% of MSc programmes taught in English.
