Special features regarding teachingThe Bachelor's and Master's in Business Administration are characterised by extensive electives and a structured design with a uniform module size of 6 credits. Thanks to the close integration with projects at companies, students are prepared appropriately for professional life. Empirical and econometric methods are taught in an application-based manner.

Special features regarding the international orientationThe department encourages stays abroad on the basis of a transparent system for recognising credits. In addition, two bilingual programmes are available: Business Administration – Energy and Finance and Health Economics.

Special features regarding research activitiesBusiness Administration at the Department of Economic Sciences sees itself as an application-oriented research discipline, which is reflected in its empirical and quantitative approach. Key research areas with particularly strong external funding are Energy Economics through the newly established House of Energy Markets and Finance as well as Health Care Management/Health Economics.

Support for foundersThe University of Duisburg-Essen has combined the numerous measures in the IDE competence centre for innovation and start-ups. In addition, the chair for e-business and e-entrepreneurship pursues a combination of training and start-up promotion in e-business. Thus it is the aim to help to intensify the use of digital business processes through the courses offered, while also focusing on intensifying start-up promotion in the net economy.

Characteristics of assistance to differently abled personsThe University of Duisburg-Essen has set up a counselling centre for the inclusion of people with disabilities and chronic illness. A separate inclusivity and disabilities portal is available for information, counselling and support.

Characteristics of diversity advancementThe University of Duisburg-Essen established the first vice-rector for diversity management in Germany back in October 2008. Diversity management is anchored in the guidelines of the UDE and an integral part of the university's development planning. Through such programmes as ProSALAMANDER and ProDiversity, as well as projects on equality in education, the department is actively involved in promoting diversity.
