Special features regarding teachingIn all educational degree courses, the seminar is the predominant form of teaching with an upper limit of 35 participants. This creates space for tandems and work in small groups. This is complemented by the use of e-learning platforms across the board. The teaching focus is on digital media: The courses have such interesting titles as: "NeanderDigitaler? - Media pedagogical competence as a target dimension of media pedagogical action" or "Informal learning processes in digital settings: Cyber bullying, sexting and other phenomena".
Special features regarding the international orientationThe department has international research partnerships and is a member of the Society of the Learning Sciences.
Special features regarding the equipmentAll lecture rooms and almost all seminar rooms are equipped with a media panel (stationary PC, DVD player, amplifier), a digital ceiling projector, a screen, a sound system and, depending on the size of the room, a mobile radio microphone. There is a seminar room that contains only PC workstations. A mobile smart board is available. In the department library, there are 10 Internet-enabled workstations and a WiFi hotspot available for use. In addition, there is a free scanner with special software for processing scans.

Other special featuresOnce a year, the Institute for Educational Science and the Educational Science student body host the "Inspiration Future. Career opportunities in educational science" event. The aim of the event is to highlight future-proof fields of work that are open to students with a Master's degree in educational science from the Ruhr University Bochum. External members of the public or alumni offer insights into their professional field in interactive and entertaining formats (pitch, World Café etc.) and answer personal questions.
