Special features regarding teachingThe institute's overall focus is on interculturality; Specialisation options are available in all degree courses; Excellent career prospects due to high practical component. "German language and literature in dialogue" concept (close cooperation of sub-disciplines), innovative teaching content (semiotics and multimodal communication/gesture research); Digital Humanities); skills module with Speech Science and Practical Speech; Technical media competence. IKK: Social and cultural science orientation and critical cultural communication, intensive project learning, peer-to-peer learning, innovative examination forms.
Special features regarding the international orientationA particular university-wide contribution to the mobility of students and to the international character of TU Chemnitz is made by the professorship for "Intercultural Communication" and "German as a Foreign and Second Language", who are also responsible for supervising the ERASMUS programme (incoming and outgoing students). The close links between the courses in the fields of Intercultural Communication and German Studies strengthen the department's international orientation. In addition: Foreign language modules integrated into the curriculum (intercult. Germ.), semester abroad (IKK) and internat. focus of teaching and research.

Special features regarding the equipmentUnique feature of research: "Multimodal Interaction Lab" (Professorship in German Linguistics, Semiotics and Multimodal Communication), for video analysis and processing as well as data collection. In teaching: Co-management of the "Virtual Environment Learning LAB" teaching and learning laboratory, a laboratory facility for experience-oriented learning in virtual worlds; independent planning and execution of research projects by students. Generally excellent technical equipment at the TUC.
Special features regarding research activitiesGerman Federal Ministry of Education and Research project "Hands and Objects in Language, Culture and Technology: Manual Actions at Workplaces between Robotics, Gesture and Product Design" (www.manuact.org), a trans-faculty cooperation with work sciences
