Special features regarding teachingThe possibility of combining teacher training with a BA offers a high degree of organisational flexibility and specialisations. The advantage of studying at a small university in Eichstätt is that the classes are small compared with larger universities. This means that students' individual teaching and learning behaviour can be better taken into account. This means a high student-teacher ratio which benefits students writing their term papers and final dissertations.
-
Special features regarding the international orientationIntegration into German studies institute partnership (DAAD) with two Brazilian universities (UFRGS Porto Alegre and UFPEL Pelotas, in cooperation with FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg); High number of Erasmus partnerships, which students benefit from; Regular exchange of lecturers via Erasmus programmes (especially Bologna, Budapest, Limerick, Turku)
-
Special features regarding the equipmentThe university library is very well stocked. A large number of books can be accessed quickly, waiting times are short and there is an interlibrary loan service. Electronic publications are increasingly integrated into the library. All research tools relevant for German studies are available.
-
Special features regarding research activitiesThe research centre on religious literature of the Middle Ages has direct links to research via the sub-discipline of medieval studies. Students are also involved in other research projects, such as field research in linguistics. The Working Group on Literary Media Analysis (ALM) provides the technical foundation and space in which to research, teach and learn about literary adaptations, intermediality and media convergence. It helps impart skills in media handling and analysis.
-
Other special featuresWhile studying German studies at larger universities is often quite anonymous, German studies at Eichstätt is a small department despite the university's size. Students quickly make contacts, and most students very much identify with their subject. This creates an excellent study atmosphere, which is also reflected in the very good tutor-student ratio.
