Special features regarding teachingA dedicated Foreign Language Didactics Professorship is available for teacher training courses. Thanks to joint courses, there is a close link between Literary Studies and Linguistics. Modern empirical methods are taught for this purpose (corpus analysis, cognitive experiments). The eye-tracking lab of the English/American Studies Department is also used in classes. A member of staff was distinguished as an RWTH Lecturer for his services to teaching. One teaching project was awarded 2nd place by the RWTH teaching prize jury.
Special features regarding the international orientationThe institute has permanent researchers and teaching staff from Australia, Great Britain, the USA, Brazil and Singapore. There are research collaborations with partners from Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Great Britain and Israel. Guest lectures in courses are also always held as a result of these collaborations.

Special features regarding the equipmentThe institute has its own eye-tracking lab for experimental behavioural research as well as a computer lab and the Center for Research and Advanced Teaching of English (CREATE), which can be used for classes and work on final theses. It also has its own library with around 64,000 media items, of which approx. 50,000 are books on all areas of English/American Studies.
