Special features regarding teachingThe degree courses deal with the linguistic characteristics, literatures and cultures of the various Anglophone cultural areas as well as the inter- and transcultural contexts of the English language around the world and its use in socio-cultural contexts. Much emphasis is placed on research, theories and methods. Practicals and international exchanges through dual degree programmes (with universities in China, England, Russia and Taiwan) provide students with job-related applied skills. Students are consulted at regular intervals via surveys as well as individually.
Special features regarding the international orientationHigh percentage if international students especially in the Master's degrees, special internationalisation office at the faculty, double BA and MA degree programmes, practicals (BA) in an English-speaking country. International PhD programme, strong focus within the department and across departments on Africa (literature, varieties of English), international teaching staff, regular international guest lectures, all specialist courses are held in English, high percentage of Erasmus students and other exchange students.

Other special featuresOutreach: Contacts with schools and the general public are cultivated, such as through the annual literature festival, which is organised by a member of the specialist group, and through city debates which members of the specialist group were involved in.
