  • Special features regarding teaching
    An "International Service Point” for all international students of the department and as an advice service for students on semesters abroad was recently set up by the computer science, electrical engineering and information technology department. The service point pools all international services of the department, providing international students with excellent support and advice. The service point also collects data, which are used as the basis for the department’s and therefore also the computer science department’s internationalisation strategy.

  • Special features regarding the equipment
    Several student tutorial and work rooms are available for students in the buildings of the Department of Computer Science. In particular, the department offers two large CIP pools which are equipped with modern PC workstations, and which can also be linked to the computer centre at the university, as well as (as part of Bachelor's and/or Master's theses) to the HLRS high-performance computing centre if necessary. The technical equipment is state-of-the-art. The seminar rooms and lecture theatres are equipped with projectors.

  • Support for founders
    The department itself has no initiatives of its own to support company start-ups. The department refers anyone interested to the university support services, in particular the TTI (Technologie Transfer Initiative GmbH).
  • Characteristics of assistance to differently abled persons
    The department is involved in a project currently running at the University of Stuttgart to develop accessibility in buildings. A disability officer is responsible centrally for issues relating to students with disabilities and chronic illness at the University of Stuttgart. All information on reasonable adjustments and possible assistance is available on the university’s central website. For teaching staff there is a guideline on supporting students with disabilities and chronic illness.
  • Characteristics of diversity advancement
    The University of Stuttgart has many initiatives to promote diversity and equal opportunity. The department is involved in these initiatives, especially those to attract and/or promote women students (TryScience, Girls’ Day, special workshops for female school students). The department makes a point of recommending suitable female candidates for programmes promoting young scientists and scholars (e.g. Margarethe von Wrangell habilitation programme). In addition, the department has an International Service Point to specifically look after international students.
  • Other special features
    The department has a very active student organisation, which addresses all the needs of students and represents the students' opinions in university committees. The Informatik-Forum Stuttgart (Computer Science Forum Stuttgart) (info) is a society which promotes Computer Science at the Universität Stuttgart. The primary aim is to strengthen the field of Computer Science and the new academic generation, as well as the structure and expansion of relations between science and industry, focussing on the region of Stuttgart.
